Learning through Play with My Fun Shapes

My Fun Shapes provides hands-on, mess-free fun for toddlers and young children ages 2 and up. At first glance, it's clear that this preschool learning toy introduces and builds straightforward skills such as color and shape recognition and fine motor skills but there's so much more to this set. My Fun Shapes also instills a variety of early learning proficiencies that will ignite a love for learning and add value for years to come.

Here are a few of those skills:

  • Curiosity: What block would work better at the bottom of the stack versus the top?
  • Spatial reasoning: Will placing the circle block here cause the tower to grow taller, or come tumbling down?
  • Focus and self-control: I really want that orange star block, but it's not my turn to pick up a new shape. Or, I know adding the yellow Tibbar block on top of the stack will cause it to collapse, but I can't help myself!
  • Memory: When I played before, did I already try adding this shape in a specific way or area? What was the result?
  • Dexterity: Placing the block on the stack slowly and carefully versus quickly and carelessly.
  • Vocabulary and Language: Identifying and expressing each color and block shape. Using the disks to help encourage the recognition of shapes and colors and then communicating it by either speaking out loud or using signs, like pointing to or picking up the block.
  • Experimentation: The blocks can be stacked in various ways - either laid flat or placed upright on a side. Let your kids experiment with sizes, weights, and motion as they explore various building patterns.
  • Decision-making: Deciding what shape and color block to pick up, how to place it, how to build and stack the blocks, etc.
  • Achievement of goals: Did all the blocks I wanted to use get added to the tower? Did I build a structure that made me happy and proud? Did everything fall down? And if so, was that my goal?

How to Play My Fun Shapes

There are lots of ways to engage with a child to help them learn their colors and shapes. You can let them play freely with the 30 blocks, stacking and balancing them as they choose or you can ask them to name the color or the shape they are using. Another way to play is to hold up one of the disks and ask them to choose the correct block.

The blocks can be stacked in various ways. They can be laid flat or placed upright on a side. Tibbar rabbit likes to help! Place two or more rabbit blocks as a base and try to balance the shape blocks on top of them. Experimentation is the fun part! Let them test and try out different sizes, weights, and motions as they explore various building patterns.

For more challenging play, mix up the disks face down and then ask players to choose one. When it is turned over ask them to choose the correct block and place it on the stack. See how many blocks they can stack or balance before it falls!

The possibilities are endless when you start playing with My Fun Shapes! Get ready for unlimited entertainment by stacking and balancing blocks and see how many of the colorful shapes you can balance before they come tumbling down!
