Welcome to Simply Fun’s How to Play Take Your Pick!
A game where players earn points by guessing the words or phrases that they think best describe the other players.
There are several games in the Take Your Pick family, but they’re all played basically the same, so we’ll focus on the original.
You can play Take Your Pick with 3-8 players, ages 10 and up!
Take Your Pick is good for enhancing Social Relationships as players learn more about one another and themselves.
Select a player to be the first person as the “Subject”.
The Subject starts the first round by shuffling the deck and dealing three cards to each of the other players.
After each round the next player clockwise becomes the Subject.
Players should note that each card has two words or phrases printed at each end. One end of the card has one of the words/phrases circled and the other end has the other one.
Players try to correctly predict the words or phrases the Subject will say best describes them. The more you guess correctly, the more points you score. Be the player with the most points at the end of the game to win!
All players arrange their cards so the words or phrases they think the Subject will choose are at the top of the card. Remember these are about the Subject, not the player holding the cards.
Then players put the cards in order so the card they think is most likely to be correct is on the left and the card they are least sure about is on the right.
Starting with the player to the left, the player reads both words or phrases on the card aloud. The player should not show the card to anyone and reads the words with equal emphasis so the Subject cannot tell which one the player thinks the Subject will choose.
Next, the Subject chooses the one that describes them best. The player then places the card face-up on the table with the word the player guessed pointed towards the Subject.
If the player’s pick matches the Subjects answer, the player collects that card in a face-down stack in front of them. Now the player reads the next card. As long as the player continues to be correct, they can read their next card. When the player has read all three cards their turn is over, and it is the next player’s turn.
If the player’s pick does not match the Subjects answer, their turn is over, and they discard any remaining un-read cards in their hand, and it is the next players turn.
After each player has taken their turn reading their cards to the Subject the round is over. The Subject then earns the number of cards equal to the most successful player of the round and collects them from the deck.
The player to the Subject’s left is now the new Subject.
The game ends when each player has been the Subject one time. At the end of the game, all players count their cards. Each card is worth one point. The player with the most points wins.
If you can’t get enough of Take Your Pick, have a look at the sequel with 150 more cards or for a twist try Qrazy Quandaries which features choices that are really out there… “Would you rather have three arms or 20 fingers?”
Whichever one’s your favorite, you’ll discover that the Take Your Pick family of games is a great way to bring together new friends or old.
See how well you know the other players and have fun talking and laughing with this entertaining, get-to-know-you game, Take Your Pick!
